Profile:
For 100 years, the School of Dental Medicine
has been an integral component of the University of
Pittsburgh's acclaimed health sciences programs.
Since its founding in 1896 as the Department of
Dental Surgery, the school has been educating
students to meet the oral health needs of Western
Pennsylvanians and surrounding regions. Research
efforts within the school continue to expand,
focusing on geriatrics and aging, craniofacial
anomalies, pharmacology and pain control,
implantology, periodontics, oral cancer, and
dentistry for immunosuppressed patients. In the
clinical area, the school provides dental services
for approximately 65,000 patient visits per
year.

Admissions Requirements:
The requirements for admissions to the School
of Dental Medicine are completion of 90 semester
hours with a desired minimum QPA of 3.00. An
undergraduate degree from an accredited college is
preferred prior to matriculation at the dental
school, but this is not required.
