University of Louisville School of Dentistry

Profile:
The University of Louisville School of Dentistry (ULSD) is a state-supported institution located in downtown Louisville. Founded in 1887, the ULSD is one of the oldest dental schools in the nation. The current freshman class size is 80 students: 44 Kentucky residents and 36 nonresidents. The D.M.D. program is four years in length. A combined D.M.D./M.S. in Oral Biology can be obtained through participation in an optional research program and a combined D.M.D/Ph.D. program is under development. The School's approach is to consider students partners in learning and provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the challenges of the dental profession. Many ULSD graduates choose to practice general dentistry, while others choose to continue their education in a specialty program or in dental research.

Admissions Requirements:
Applicants must have completed a minimum of 90 semester hours of college course work from a U.S. or Canadian school, including 32 hours of science courses. Applicants who will have earned a baccalaureate degree prior to enrollment are given preference for admission. Required courses are:

  Biology - 16 Semester Units
General Chemistry - 8 Semester Units
Organic Chemistry - 8 Semester Units
  Physics - 4 Semester Units

Upper level human anatomy courses and upper level biology courses are strongly recommended.
